Y is for Yard Crashers

Y is for Yard Crashers

Is it weird that I like this show?

I sure don't like landscaping.

Hell, I barely tolerate the outside – I find its many tiny exoskeletal, inhabitants lending themselves more so to a Sci Fi movie than any place here on Earth. But every time I catch it on, I end up watching the whole episode.

Yard Crashers is a home improvement show in which the host, Ahmed, hangs out at a local hardware/gardening show (Osh) and ambushes the shoppers trying to get one of them to take him home so he can landscape their yard.

The beginning of the show is always a series of rejections, the host often resorting to running after people to get them to take him home, until someone finally agrees. It does seem a bit strange that so many people either don’t believe him, or don’t need free landscaping done. As someone who is poor and hates landscaping, that shit is right up my alley. It’s not like he’s not some random guy at the store; he does have a huge camera crew right there with him seemingly giving him credibility, but the show is a bit under the radar, so I roll with it.

Overall I just find the show fun to watch. The host handles well, the wide variety of persons that he ends up helping out; from tattooed bikers, to scrawny opinionated ranchers, to Berkley hippsters. The finished yards always look great and inspire; even though I know my attempts would end in disaster.

It’s been airing on the DIY network for 2 seasons now, but I noticed that Hulu has started carrying the show. If you’re into the whole do it yourself mentality, especially in regards to outdoor living spaces it’s definitely worth checking out.
