F is for Facebook

F is for Facebook

It seems that with the flood of emails I've been getting, another sect of my friends have recently stumbled into the path of the social juggernaut, Facebook. Once again I must take up the awkward task of determining how to politely explain why I declined their request the very next time I find myself in an uncomfortable silence with them.

Also friends, if you find yourself in this situation with me, please do not counter my polite decline with an attempt to explain to me what it is.

I know what Facebook is.

While I appreciate the desire to include me in your reindeer games, its remains ever unlikely that I’ll ever eventually join. Most of my reasoning revolving around the thought of anyone being able to get in contact with me at any time just rubs me the wrong way.

What am I, running for Jesus this year?

There are people I don't give my phone number or email address to, deliberately. These folks are ones I do not like and would prefer not to correspond with. Theres no shame in that. The thought of some searchable database where anyone who remembers my name can look me up and get in contact with me defeats the purpose of me snubbing them in the first place.

They would kick me out of the Elitist Pricks Club if I let just anyone get in contact with me whenever they felt like it. Do you know how hard it was to get an invite to that club?

What am I saying? Of course you don’t.

Anyway.

If you already have my email or phone number, congrats, I don't hate you.

Everyone else? Well...
