The Late Show

Starting March 2nd Jimmy Fallon will be taking over the reins of the Late Show from Conan O'Brian, who will himself be taking of the reins of the Tonight Show from Jay Leno, who will be nudging out the entire 10pm line up on NBC.
Somewhere in a corner Carson Daly weeps.
The Late Night with Jimmy Fallon promotion machine is, along with the standard stuff, making the new media rounds in anticipation of his show. Getting a twitter account going, hanging out with the likes of Felicia Day creator of The Guild, as well as appearing on Diggnation with Alex Albright and Kevin Rose.
While I've never been a big fan of Jimmy Fallen - he's always come off as a less good Adam Sandler to me, who i also find more and more irritable - but these recent appearances have actually swayed my opinion of him. He comes off as funny, sincere, even slightly charismatic; it actually makes me interested in finding out if he has what it takes to fill Conan’s gigantic, goofy shoes. Media blitz successful I suppose.
NBC, the owner of The Late Night show, is one of the big studios that, in the past at least, has recognized the usefulness of the Internet. They were an initial backer of one of my favorite websites ever, hulu.com, and still regularly add their shows to the site. However, while it’s nice to see old media embracing the new; the level of presence within new media The Late Night Show will have once it goes live is a bit vague.
Old media is all about one voice; we say something you listen. Whereas new media is more about many voices; we all say something, try to sort out the useful stuff yourself. With benefits and faults inherent in each.
At some point in time someone somewhere may figure out how to merge these two ways of thought, but as changed in my opinion of him I am, I do not think it will be Jimmy Fallon.
Jimmy Fallon and all his web 2.0-ness can be found at the main site here.
